ALAN LICHT PLAYS WELL CD CAR09
The fourth solo album from the ex-guitarist of Love child, Blue Humans, and Run-On. Features two massive tracks of hypnotic guitar exposition and mind-bending experimentalism. "Remington Khan", from a 1997 NYU performance, is a Licht solo staple that AC Lee described in the Wire as "an ocean of steel stringed waves [and] subtle melodic permutations…a Reichian soundwall [that] hypnotises even the rowdiest of would-be hecklers." "The Old Victrola" includes two reworkings of the Captain Beefheart classic "Well", as well as Licht's notorious disco deconstruction from last summer's Transmissions Festival in Chapel Hill, of which Bill Meyer in Signal to Noise said, "somewhere Andy Kaufman was smiling."
MIKROKNYTES MIKROKNYTES CD CAR12
Second album from the Washington D.C. electronics-and-violin duo. Features Derek Morton of Ex-Atari Kid and Rocker! Supernova records. Mixing minimalist droning, abstract electronic channeling, and meditative improvisation, Morton and violinist John Coursey fire thought-lasers into the gaps between analog and digital, programming and spontaneity, and computers and instruments. Imagine Hrvatski if his dad was Tony Conrad, or Phill Niblock if he was quarterback of a football team made of Microstoria 12-inches. Mikroknytes will play selected east coast cities later this summer.
